Speech and Drama – General Conditions
- Nominations can be submitted to the Conroy Hall on Friday 17th June 2022 between 2 pm – 6 pm, using the official nomination form. Please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope for receipt and competitor’s ticket. IF posted, nominations must be in the hands of the secretary by Friday 17th June 2022. Please allow several business days for Australia post delivery.
- Own choice material to be handed in on Monday 1st August or Tuesday 2nd August at TYTO Gallery between 8am – 5pm. PLEASE DO NOT POST. If OWN CHOICE WORK is not submitted on time, the competitor will be disqualified.
- Please clearly mark on the top right hand of the first page of the manuscript as follows:

- Please do not write name of school or competitor on entry.
- Please do not attach information to the entry using paper clips and stick-on notes.
- Due to copyright laws, competitors must acknowledge the title of the poem and the poet on entry. Please use title page document provided on page 22.
- Competitors are not permitted to repeat a performance of the same item or work set by the adjudicator in any of the Own Choice sections.
- Introductions may be sent in for drama sections and should be typewritten in double- spacing and kept to a maximum of four lines.
- IF UNABLE TO COMPETE ON THE DAY OF PERFORMANCE – PLEASE NOTIFY THE COMMITTEE A.S.A.P. No section will be held up waiting for performers.
- No member of one choir, group or ensemble will be permitted to perform with another choir, group or ensemble in the same section.

NURSERY RHYME – OWN CHOICE – SOLO
- Prep and under Time limit 30 seconds
RECITATION – OWN CHOICE – SOLO
- Grade 3 and under Time limit 1 minute
- Grades 4, 5 and 6 Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 7, 8, 9 Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 10,11,12 Time limit 2 minutes
RECITATION – SET POEM – SOLO (Set Poems are on pages 37-47. Choose 1 poem)
- Grades 2 and under Time limit 1 minute
- Grades 3, 4 Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 5, 6 Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 7, 8 Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 9,10 Time limit 2 minutes

PREPARED MIME INDIVIDUAL (Secondary)
- Grades 7 to 12 Time limit 2 minutes
Competitor is to give the Adjudicator the TITLE only. Clothes – all black. ONE PROP – a stool or a chair
IMPROMPTU READING – Competitors will be allowed time in which to peruse work which is chosen by the adjudicator.
- Grades 4/5/6 – Time limit 2 minutes
- Grades 7/8/9 – Time limit 1 minute 30 seconds
- Grades 10/11/12 – Time limit 1 minute 30 seconds
IMPROMPTU SPEAKING – “Just a minute, please!” (Secondary)
One minute impromptu talk on topic drawn from a hat. A different topic for each competitor.

PRIMARY VERSE SPEAKING CHOIRS – SMALL SCHOOLS.
Definition of Small School – A school having up to 60 students
- Own Choice Time limit 3 minutes
- Group Improvisation – 4 students only. Secondary
5 minutes to prepare a topic given by the adjudicator. The group perform on stage, their interpretation of the topic of no more than 3 minutes.
